Dear Students,

By nature, human beings are curious about the past of everything they interact with—both animate and inanimate—starting with their own history and the society they live in. History, as a science, examines and brings this human curiosity to light under a scientific framework. Past events and the traces they leave behind are analyzed within a methodical structure, specifying time and place, and exploring cause-and-effect relationships. Holding a significant place among the social sciences, history is an essential discipline that not only illuminates the past but also helps us make sense of today’s social and political developments while contributing to future planning.

The Department of History within the Faculty of Letters at Erzurum Technical University aims to instill the true meaning and general principles of history in you, our esteemed students. It is among our department’s priorities that our students perceive history not merely as a popular hobby or a collection of heroic tales, but as a discipline bound by specific rules and principles. Understanding the past realistically is only possible through rigorous research methods.

Furthermore, by incorporating regional, national, and international history courses into our curriculum, we aim to raise researchers, academics, and prospective teachers who know their past, comprehend the present, and set ambitious goals for the future.
