Erzurum has been awarded the right to host the 2028 European Universities Winter Games
(EUSA) as part of a collaborative process in which Erzurum Technical University is among
the stakeholder institutions. In line with the decision taken by the European University Sports
Association, the city has been included among the host centers of one of the major events in
the European university sports calendar. This development is considered a result of the
coordinated efforts carried out among relevant institutions, particularly Atatürk University
and Bayburt University.
The candidacy process was conducted under the coordination of the Turkish University Sports
Federation, with Erzurum Technical University contributing in line with its institutional
capacity and existing infrastructure. The university’s activities in the field of sports, as well as
its achievements in the 2026 Turkish University Sports Federation Winter Games, were also
taken into consideration within this context.
The Rector of Erzurum Technical University, Bülent Çakmak, stated that this achievement is
not merely the right to host an organization, but also a reflection of the shared value that
universities can produce in the fields of sports, education, and urban development. He also
emphasized the strategic importance of universities in international organizations.
