Damla Köse, a graduate student at the Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Institute of
Health Sciences and a national shooter, achieved a remarkable success by winning the gold
medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle individual event at the 2026 European Airgun
Championship held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
During the final held on the fourth day of the championship, Damla Köse secured her place in
the gold medal match through her outstanding performance in the qualification rounds. In a
closely contested final, she defeated her Swiss opponent Vivien Joy Jaeggi with a score of 15-
14, thereby attaining the title of European Champion.
With this achievement, Damla Köse became the first Turkish female shooter to win a gold
medal in the senior category at a European Championship.
Following the championship, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak extended his
congratulations to the national athlete, stating: “We are experiencing immense pride in the
achievement of our student Damla Köse at the European Championship. This historic success
is the clearest demonstration of perseverance and disciplined effort. I wholeheartedly
congratulate Damla and the coaching team for representing our university and country at the
highest international level. This accomplishment is not only an individual victory but also a
strong testament to what our youth can achieve in sports. At Erzurum Technical University,
