The doctoral thesis, prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Murat Çağlar, a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics at Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ), was awarded the "Doctoral Thesis of the Year" award in the field of Mathematics within the scope of the 2026 Higher Education Council (YÖK) Outstanding Achievement Awards.
The 2026-2027 Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center in the Presidential Complex, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The YÖK 2026 Outstanding Achievement Awards were also presented to their recipients at the ceremony.
Within the scope of the YÖK (Council of Higher Education) Outstanding Achievement Awards, awards were given in 20 categories under 3 headings: doctoral thesis of the year, institutional awards, and special awards. The doctoral thesis awards included those in the field of mathematics as well as other scientific fields. The awards were presented to academics and university administrators by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The award was given to the doctoral thesis prepared at ETU.
The study, which was awarded the "Doctoral Thesis of the Year" prize in the field of mathematics, was prepared by Dr. Yücel Özkan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Literature, Kafkas University.
The doctoral thesis, titled “Functional Inequalities for Some Special Functions,” was prepared as part of Özkan's doctoral studies in the Department of Analysis and Functions Theory, Mathematics Division, Institute of Science, Erzurum Technical University. The study was supervised by Prof. Dr. Murat Çağlar, a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at ETU, and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Erhan Deniz, a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Literature, Kafkas University.
The doctoral thesis, completed in 2025, was deemed worthy of the "Doctoral Thesis of the Year" award in the field of Mathematics as a result of the evaluation conducted within the scope of the 2026 YÖK Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Professor Dr. Murat Çağlar, who supervised the thesis, expressed his satisfaction that his student was awarded the "Doctoral Thesis of the Year" award in the field of Mathematics throughout Türkiye.
Çağlar stated that the achievement was a result of his student's dedicated work, as well as the academic mentorship and scientific research process, saying, "For an academician, witnessing a student's scientific success and contributing as a mentor in their receiving a nationwide award is a great source of pride and happiness. I consider this success to be a result of our student's dedicated work, as well as the scientific studies conducted in the field of mathematics at ETÜ."
